The lending department is the most essential space of the library both in operation and architecture. As in his first library in Viipuri, Aalto has created a spacious library landscape also at the lending department of the Rovaniemi Library by using different floor levels. The bookshelves don't cover the middle of the space like a forest, but are placed beautifully at the walls of the hall.
The children's and juvenile departments are also situated at the lending department. The children's Room of fairy tales is downstairs in the ground floort.
